February’s pretty much one of the coldest, most awful times of the year here in Winnipeg. You get the post-Christmas “mild” spell, when it’ll go up to -10 and everybody will walk around without coats, secretly hoping that this time it’s going to carry us through right until summer – and then February hits, along with our annual Festival du Voyageur, a time I associate with dashing into the nearest shop to warm up for five minutes and possibly by something further to wrap around your face to stop it falling off, because it inevitably ends up being minus fifty! This February – well, so far, however – has felt kind of different.
Kind of… happier.
Kind of… full of reasons to celebrate.
On February 1st, my best friend declared it was a day of celebration. She and her Mister had five whole years of being with each other to celebrate – an amazing couple, a wonderful friend, and definitely worth a big smile. Then came my first day back from holiday. I was greeted with hugs from coworkers, and little cupcakes to celebrate the ‘month of love’ – followed by a devotional on what love really means to each of us. Then came the birthdays. Actually, we’re still on Feb. 1st here – the ever-wonderful Brittney who I love to bits turned 27, and it was definitely a day to celebrate her and all the wonderful things she is.
The rest of the month is full of birthdays of dear friends, and Valentine’s day – a day to really celebrate this life-changing, soul-destined, wonderful love I’ve been blessed with – especially since six years ago, it could easily have never come back again. To celebrate and be thankful for the man who’ll happily cook, clean, watch Eastenders, and show up with gifts and flowers if I’m having a hard day.
But there’s one person in all of this who has a very important birthday. I’m not sure exactly which day it is, because she wasn’t with me until a couple of months after birth… but this February, Miss Rose Kitten is turning four!

Sorry Britt - Baily pwns Rose at dress-up, a fake hat had to do 🙂
LOOK AT HOW LITTLE SHE WAS! And so confused… 🙂 This little cat has brought SO much joy into my life – she’s developed such a personality, likes to talk, play football, and cuddle (but only on her dad’s “fat lap”). And she’s named after a Doctor Who character. I cherish her dearly, and I couldn’t imagine life without her – happy birthday to the sweetest little cat in the world!
What are you celebrating this month, or what’s bringing a smile to your face these cold winter days? (A big thank you to all of you for bringing one to mine on Wednesday, too – you guys are awesome.)
Aww… I want to squeeze baby rose!!
This month I’m celebrating all of the changes we seem to be opening ourselves up to, all the possibility for the next six months, and how I’m at the half way point in my semester! *dances*
Thank you for your kind words about Jess & I, I’m still amazed that it’s been that long, it doesn’t seem like it! And at the same time, it seems like we’ve always been together.
🙂 I’m so excited for the next few months for you guys too!!
SHE IS SO CUTE! little beebs!
😀
This is just too dang cute!! 🙂
Happy Birthday, Rose!!
xoxo
Rose is so adorable!
What will we be celebrating? Hopefully a job offer! Having a quiet weekend with lots of snow! Hot cocoa! Pizza! All the little things. 🙂
Awww, yes definitely. Being able to enjoy hot chocolate (and blankets!) is one very good thing about winter 🙂
Oh my gosh, Rose is absolutely adorable! She’s such a beautiful cat! Happy Birthday to her!
This month, I don’t really have any birthdays to celebrate, but I am really looking forward to Valentine’s Day. My husband and I first started dating on Valentine’s Day… seven years ago! It’s made me stop and think about all that we’ve been through and how much has happened in those years!
Oh definitely! What a way to start dating, Valentine’s 🙂
You really do have a lot to celebrate! January and February are crazy with birthdays around these parts. In February alone, we’ve got 6 family birthdays and one family anniversary. I’m not even going to tell you how crazy it gets when you add in friends. Guess I should be happy my birthday gets jumbled around the December holidays. At least then, my only competition is a dead guy. (please laugh at that … please!)
LOL yes, you’re okay, I did laugh 🙂
OMGoodness, look at her wee little face! I can’t handle kittens. They can be PURE evil and you wouldn’t notice because they are JUST.THAT.CUTE. lol. I love her grown up, too, because she looks dainty and dignified. ❤
LOL you’re right, they can totally get away with anything when they’re small!! She still gets away with knocking glasses full of water onto the carpet… EVERY time, because she’s so sweet. Darn those little faces…
SO CUTE!
Sounds like this is going to be a great month for you. There is a certain get-together to look forward to as well…:D
awwww happy bday to kitty! the fake hat made me laugh!
lol she wouldn’t wear a real one but I couldn’t resist!!
Happy birthday, Rose!
Cutest. Cat. Ever.
Also – one of my nearest and dearest friends gave me, as a wedding gift, one book a month for our first year of marrige. So far, it has been the most awesome gift ever. But, the other day my February book arrived, and it was…wait for it…Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere.
The best part: she doesn’t really know about my blog life, or my desire to read him based on your suggestions! It was fate.
SERIOUSLY?? That’s AMAZING, I cannot WAIT for you to read it. You have to keep me updated. Every chapter!!
i’m celebrating my freedom of being single. my greek babe coming to visit me and my tax return!
love you dear!
LOL I read that as “coming to visit me and my tax return” before I actually got it haha. Those sound like VERY good things to look forward to 🙂
Wow, sounds like it’s been a great week for you!
She’s grown so much. It always makes me kind of sad to look at Webster’s kitten pictures. He was just SO TINY! Haha
I love how I just acted like a total MOTHER there. Lol
The funniest is looking at the pics in between kitten and cat when they’re all gangly and skinny and disproportioned, still with a sweet little kitten face 🙂 But they’re the best when they’re just little puffs like that!!
What a pretty kitty! I like her little white feet.
Oh me too, I always hold her little white “hands” when she’s cuddling. ❤
Awww, Rose is so cute. I want to get a cat once I have a bigger apartment, a job, and am somewhat settled.
you don’t wear a coat in -10?!? ahhhhhhh!!!!! I cannot even process that comment!!! haha. I freeze in 50 degrees celsius. I am a wimp; furthermore, I am a Californian.
Look at that little kitty!!! (too bad I am allergic). 😦
did I say celsius? hahaha. I meant Fahrenheit!!
lol!!
Awww! What a cute kitty! I am celebrating my mom’s birthday this weekend and besides Valentine’s Day I think that’s about it. Even though there will be two feet or more of snow here by weekend’s end, spring is not all that far away and that is exciting. 🙂
I am glad that you have so much that you are looking forward to this month. We all need things to look forward to in these dreary winter days. For me, I know that once February hits, Spring seems to be not so far off. This morning on my way in to work, birds were chirping. It just gives me the little bit of hope I need that winter wont last forever.
I’m celebrating my birthday tomorrow. Then on the 13th, I’ll celebrate Valentine’s Day with 2 of my nephews. I am so excited to spend the evening with them so my brother & his wife can go on a proper date. Should be a great evening, I think this is the 3rd year in a row that I will have spent Vday weekend w/ them!
Happy February to you! Here’s hoping that it doesn’t get bitterly cold!!
Rose is just the cutest thing. And sitting on the dishwasher, that just makes me laugh. She looks like Queen of the Kitchen.
This month I am celebrating my success with my goal to get happy. Things are moving along nicely on that front.
Oh she’s definitely Queen of the Kitchen. Queen of the house!! 🙂
I’m really glad to hear about your goal going so well. What a great reason to celebrate 🙂
HAppy bday to your adorable cat! I know you don’t know what day it is, but I figured I’d wish her a bday greeting today! I’m celebrating the fact that it hasn’t snowed that much in Toronto and I’m crossing my fingers it stays that way! 🙂
Awwww, what a cute little sweet kitten! Hehehe. I’m so jealous of anyone who has pets (jealous in a good way, hehe) because I can’t have any at my apartment right now! It makes me sooo sad (I actually had a dream about my old dog last night!) But anyway, happy birthday to your Miss Rose Kitten! Awwww. What a sweetie.
And, I’ve always favored February, it’s my birth month! Even though it’s smack dab in the middle of winter and almost every year I can count on the weather being terrible. (Even here in San Diego, it’s rained every year. It’s raining as we speak! Sigh.) But I don’t mind, because I associate February with good things, always. Even if it IS grey outside!
Awww, what a fun post. I have a lot to celebrate this month!
YES you do!!!! *Dances*
Celebrations are always good… especially if they fall on a month that usually is just …cold.
Your kitty is so cute!!
How was that Ursula Leguin book? I have been wanting to read her books because they talk about them in the movie ‘The Jane Austen Book Club’
Hello! Thanks for stopping by – I’ll let you know when I’ve finished! I’d DEFINITELY recommend “The Lathe of Heaven” first, it’s one of my favourite books – such an imaginative story. I’m excited to see if this one is as wonderful 🙂 I’m stopping by to check out your blog right away!
Ugh, I know what you mean about February – we get the same thing here in Wisconsin, where your face feels like it’s gonna shatter in the cold.
I love where the rest of the article went. 🙂
I’ve read Earthsea by Ursula, but wasn’t blown away by it. Hmm.
